If you are looking for a rental home then there are some things you should know. The Federal Fair Housing Act was passed years ago to protect your rights as a renter. Here are a few things that the Fair Housing Act does. The Fair Housing Act prevents rental companies and people from doing several things when offering rental property. They are not allowed to use race, religion, sex, handicap, family status, color or national origin as a reason to deny a rental who is otherwise qualified to rent. Likewise they cannot use the same criteria to refuse to negotiate, deny access to facilities in the rental project and they most certainly cannot set different prices, terms and conditions based on those characteristics. If you believe you have been the target of this kind of illegal activity you don't have to accept it. You can file a complaint with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development of the Federal Government. Fair housing is your right in the United States and you should insist on it.
